後ヶ浜海岸にある「立岩」は、柱状玄武岩の自然にできた岩で、そのそそり立つような姿が日本海と相まって大変美しいコントラストを醸し出しています。高さは20メートルあります。 間人（たいざ）浦にあるこの岩は、厳しくそびえ立つ巨岩で伝説によれば、第31代用明天皇のお后間人（はしうど）皇后の第3皇子麿子親王が、この地で鬼退治をされた時、一夜のうちに天から降りてきてこの大岩に鬼を封じ込めたといわれています。 今でも風が強く、波の高い夜などは鬼どもの号泣する声が聞こえるといわれています。 柱状玄武岩の、そそり立っているところから「立岩」と呼ばれ、日本でも数少ない自然にできた岩の一つです。（現地にある京丹後市・立岩の説明看板より引用）
“Tateiwa” on the Ushirogahama coast is a naturally formed rock of columnar basalt, and its towering appearance creates a very beautiful contrast with the Sea of Japan. It is 20 meters high. This rock, located in Taizaura, is a gigantic towering gigantic rock. According to legend, the 31st Emperor Yomei’s wife, Taizado’s third prince, Imperial Prince Maroko, was born here.
